About VRS Recruitment: Scientific Recruiters With Scientific Backgrounds

Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Manchester, VRS Recruitment places scientific, engineering, and commercial talent into UK pharma, biotech, CRO, and instrumentation employers. Every recruiter comes from a scientific or technical background, which is why our shortlists carry technique depth other agencies miss.

Now

The Present

Two decades of placements across pharma, biotech, CRO, instrument vendors, and contract testing. Onward and upwards.

Built by Scientists, for Scientists

VRS started in a Manchester laboratory cluster, not a generalist recruitment office. The founding team came from analytical chemistry, life science research, and instrumentation backgrounds. Twenty years later, that hiring criterion still applies to every consultant we bring on: technical literacy is the entry requirement, not the bonus.

What makes a scientific recruiter different from a generalist?

Technical literacy at the screening stage. A generalist sees a CV and forwards it. A scientific recruiter asks which instruments the candidate has worked on, which assays they've validated, and how they would approach a specific technical problem. That conversation filters out 70% of bad fits before they reach the hiring manager.

How long has VRS been operating?

Since 2005, with a head office at Alderley Park in Cheshire and a dedicated VRS Scotland operation supporting the Edinburgh, Dundee, and Glasgow life science clusters. We've placed candidates into UK scientific employers continuously across that period, including through two recessions and the pandemic.

Sectors, Services, and the Way We Work

VRS recruits across six specialist sectors: analytical chemistry, life sciences, scientific sales and commercial, field service engineering, scientific software, and quality and regulatory affairs. Each sector is led by a consultant whose technical background matches the discipline. We deliver permanent, contract, and retained search assignments.

What size of business does VRS work with?

Everything from early-stage biotechs hiring their first scientist to global instrumentation manufacturers placing field service teams across the UK. Our client roster includes Eurofins, Shimadzu, UCB, Intertek, Thermo Fisher, PerkinElmer, Waters, Resolian, Veolia, Sotax, Lablogic, Kratos Analytical, and Labman.

Where can I find current vacancies?

Live vacancies sit on the candidates page, organised by sector and discipline. Many of our placements happen through confidential approach rather than advertised roles, so the candidates section also covers how to register confidentially for roles that match your technique profile and salary expectations.

FAQs

VRS Recruitment was founded in 2005 in Manchester by a team of scientists who had moved into recruitment after laboratory careers. The founding principle - that scientific recruiters should hold scientific qualifications and laboratory experience - still governs every consultant hire today.

Meet The Team

Our friendly team is composed of technical recruiters with a broad range of scientific backgrounds, from core chemistry, biology and biochemistry through to technical sales and engineering.
